Characterization and Outbreak Pattern of Influenzavirus Isolated in Busan Area, 2000-2002 years
Cho Kyung-Soon

Abstract
Influenza viruses were isolated from patients with acute respiratory infections in Busan, Korea between 2000-2002. The antigenic properties of the viruses have been characterized. In 2000, 39 vorises were isolated and were identified as influenza viruses. 23 were A type and 16 were B type influenza viriuses. Antigenic characterization determined the viruses as A/Sydney/93/97(H3N2)-like, A/Beijing/262/95(H1N1)-like, and B/Harbin/07/94-like. In 2001, 56 viruses were isolated and identified as influenza viruses. Antigenic characterization determined the viruses as A/Panama/2007/99(H3N2)-like and A/New Caledonia/20/99 (H1N1)-like. In 2002, 114 viruses were isolated and identified as influenza viruses. Antigenic characterization determined the viruses as A/Panama/2007/99(H3N2)-like, A/Newcaledonia/20/99(H1N10)- like, B/Beijing/243/97, B/Hongkong/22/2001, and B/Sichuam/ 379/99-like. These results may be useful for vaccine development and the establishment of reliable epidemic data.
